Our Disaster Plan

A major incident/disaster is a threat or actual incident which has the potential to cause serious injury or loss of life. It may cause extensive damage to property and serious disruption. It may require the assistance of the National Emergency Management Agency.

Simply stated, the objective of our Plan is to save lives, protect property, continue operations and expedite recovery.

 

 

The Disaster Preparedness Plan

 

 

Our Disaster Preparedness Plan pre-determines actions to be taken by the Government Agencies and private companies of the Couva/Tabaquite/Talparo Regional Corporation to reduce the vulnerabilities of people and property to disaster and establish capabilities to respond effectively to the actual occurrence of a disaster.

The major objectives of the Plan are as follows:
· To identify the emergency and to determine the resources needed to deal with it.
· To minimize the effects of the disaster on people and property.
· Prompt action will be required by Task Groups.

Minimising the effects may include rescue, First Aid, evacuation, shelter, rehabilitation and giving information promptly to people living near the occurrence.

The plan has been developed to deal with major incidents, natural and man-made disaster situations that could possibly occur in the Couva/Tabaquite/Talparo Region. In summary, the plan establishes an Emergency Operations Centre, a Command Group, an Emergency Management Co-Ordinator and an Emergency Task Force headed by the Chief Executive Officer of the Couva/Tabaquite/Talparo Regional Corporation, a Site Incident Commander.

The Command Group will be responsible for controlling and co-ordinating all activities related to the emergency. These will include communication, search and rescue operations, liaising with Emergency Services, National Emergency management Agency, T.T.E.M.A.S., private and official agencies, security, etc.
